Company History
F.W. Birkett & Sons Ltd was founded circa 1862, became incorporated in 1912, and has traded as non-ferrous founders and engineers ever since. The operation started as brass founders in Cleckheaton town centre and then moved to its present Hightown Road site in 1952.
During its lifetime it has spawned other non-ferrous companies, but has maintained its leading market position by acquisitions and development of the Hightown Road site and processes.
F.W. Birkett joined the Westley Group in 2002, bringing with the acquisition a diverse range of processes and products. This enabled the group to offer established customers for both concerns an immediate broader portfolio of components; for prospective customers it offered a wider “One stop shop” capability.
Today, the company still continues its original casting of copper based alloys, but has added casting of aluminium based alloys, extensive machining facilities, assembly and manufacture of self lubricating bearings.
